Brain growth through problem solving


Young Children Sept 2011 topics

p. 30 preschoolers grow their brains for prob solving

·         Reflection: what challenge did you work on today?

·         Who did you see being kind?

·         Did you make a mistake?

·         Develop a growth mindset—an attitude that allows for possibilities and promotes progress ad problem solving

·         Shift the perception they have of themselves: it’s too hard

·         Intentionally frame challenges, mistakes and problem

·         Connect to feelings: they gather evidence that they have the power to influence the outcome of a situation

·         ‘bounce like a ball when disappointed or frustrated instead of flopping like a beanbag

·         Set the stage

·         Mindset of growing our brains

·         Remind them of past experiences

·         Show enthusiasm

·         The upside of problems

·         Create a ‘treasure hunt

·          Of sorts, looking for ways to grow your brain

·         Brainstorm hard things from fantastical to appropriate

·         What’s happening here? It seems that you both want the same ball.  Does this seem like a chance to grow our brains?
